About Crown Point Roofing Company

We do one thing: the roof, and the parts of a house that keep water off it and away from it. Everything on this site is work we carry out ourselves in Crown Point and the towns around it.

How we work

The price is written down first

Scope, materials, what is included and what is not, on paper before anything starts. You read it in your own time and decide. Nothing comes off a truck on a handshake at the door.

You see the photographs

If we tell you a boot is split or a valley is worn through, we show you the picture of it. An inspection that produces no evidence is an opinion, and you can get one of those anywhere.

We say when a roof is fine

And when work somebody else has quoted is not necessary. Plenty of our visits end with a written note saying call us in five years, and that is not a wasted trip.

Licensed and insured

We carry the licensing and the liability cover the work calls for, and we pull permits on the jobs that need them. Ask to see either before anybody sets a ladder against your house.

Tear-offs, not layovers

Every replacement goes back to the deck so somebody actually looks at what your new roof is being nailed to. It is the only chance anyone gets.

The property is put back

Beds and siding protected before the first shingle moves, the magnet over the lawn and the drive more than once, and the debris away with us rather than left on the drive.

Why roofing, and why here

Because Northwest Indiana is a genuinely difficult place to keep a roof on a house, and that makes it a place where doing the work properly is visible. Our winters cross the freezing point over and over rather than settling into a steady cold, and every crossing works at a seam. Snow sits on these roofs for weeks. And the storms that come across the state line on a summer afternoon arrive with wind and, often enough, hail.

Working the same weather year after year is how Crown Point Roofing Company got useful at it. After enough roofs you stop guessing — you know which slope on a north-facing subdivision house will have gone first, you know that a stain over a bedroom window in February is an ice dam rather than a hole, and you know that the ridge cap on a house on an open corner lot is where the wind will start.

Crown Point has also grown a great deal in twenty-five years. There are streets here where every house went up within a few seasons of each other, which means a lot of roofs quietly reaching the same age at the same time — and a lot of people about to be told by somebody at their door that they need a new one today.

Where to find us

We are a mobile trade — the work happens at your property rather than at ours — but the address below is real, the phone is answered by somebody who climbs roofs, and we are not going anywhere after the next storm season.

Frequently asked questions

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. We are licensed and insured for the work we do, and we are happy to show you both before anything starts. It is a fair thing to ask every roofer who knocks on your door after a storm, and worth asking for the paperwork rather than the answer.

What areas do you cover?

Crown Point first, then Winfield, Merrillville, Cedar Lake, Lowell, Schererville, St. John, Dyer, Griffith, Hobart and Hebron, and out toward Valparaiso. If you are not sure whether you are in range, ring and ask.

Do you do commercial roofs?

Our work is residential, plus the small low-slope sections that come with houses — porch roofs, additions, dormer tops. A warehouse or a strip centre is a different trade with different equipment and we will tell you that rather than take the job.

Do you do siding, windows or anything else?

No. Roofs, flashings, gutters and the attic conditions that affect them. Everything else we will point you at somebody who does it for a living.

What payment do you take?

Card, cheque and bank transfer, on the schedule set out in the written estimate. We do not ask for the whole job in cash before we start.

What warranty is there on the work?

Two separate things, and it is worth keeping them apart. The shingle manufacturer warrants the material on its own terms, which depend on the installation following their specification. Our workmanship is warranted separately and what it covers is written on your paperwork rather than described at the door.

Who actually turns up?

Our own crew, not a subcontracted team you have never heard of and cannot reach afterwards. If that ever changes on a particular job you will be told before it happens.
